Time for Tybee
One of my Facebook friends recently reached out for vacation ideas because her upcoming Gulf shore vacation was cancelled due to the BP oil spill. I immediately suggested Tybee Island, GA - specifically Mermaid Cottages.Several years ago, I had just finished reading a series of Mary Kay Andrews books. (Looooove her!!!!) One of her novels, Savannah Breeze, is based in Tybee, thus my discovery of this quirky, lazy beach town just 20 minutes east of Savannah, GA.
(P.S. If you saw the movie The Last Song based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, it was filmed in Tybee). Once I discovered Mermaid Cottages, a sisters weekend was quickly planned! After searching thru the 40+ fantastically adorable rentals, I settled on "The Shrimp".
We spent quality sister time out on our cheery porch...
We had such a relaxing, memorable time, I promptly planned a girlfriends weekend the next year. We settled in to the Marsh Mermaid complete with a hot tub on the deck looking out over the peaceful marshes.
Diane Kauffman, Founder and Owner of the Mermaid Cottages warned me that I rented the Marsh Mermaid for the weekend of the Beach Bum Parade. One big, massive water fight parade down the center of Tybee? Oh yeah - we're in!
I haven't planned a 3rd trip to Tybee but I need to. Now my problem is I can't decide which cottage to nestle in to because they are all so damn cute! One reason is because the legendary designer Jane Coslick has waved her magic wand and sprinkled her creative fairy dust over many of the Mermaid Cottages.
Do I want to sleep on this peaceful porch?
Or on this one?
Can you believe a beach rental could be this precious?
If you've never showered outdoors with a breeze on your bod and the sun on your face, you need to do so immediately!
I think next time I'll bring my 2 Labs to play with these guys (yes, pets are welcome - how great is that???)
Maybe I'll book one of the newest Mermaid Cottages "Madelyn's On the Marsh"
Or I think the look of the "Old Love Cottage" is right up my alley!
